Hazel and the Colors of Enchanted Commons

Kids stories

Hazel the shy-but-brave Fairy and a kind Guardian Spirit collect yellow, blue, and red sparkles to bring color back to the Enchanted Commons—and Hazel finds a little treasure box of color gems.
Hazel and the Colors of Enchanted Commons

Hazel was a tiny Fairy in the Enchanted Commons. She had warm eyes and a brave heart. But she was also a little shy. When she felt shy, her wings hummed very softly.

The grass in the Commons was bright and springy. Little mushrooms made a round path. Dew drops sparkled like tiny beads.

One morning, Hazel looked around. “Oh,” she whispered. “The Commons looks… pale.”

The red flowers were not very red. The blue butterflies were not very blue. Even the rainbow puddle was only a small, gray shine.

A quiet wind swirled.

A Guardian Spirit appeared. It looked like a gentle, glowing swirl with kind eyes. It floated close, like a friendly bubble.

“Hello, Hazel,” the Guardian Spirit said in a soft voice.

“Hello,” Hazel said. “I think the colors went away.”

The Guardian Spirit nodded. “We can bring them back. We will restore the colors.”

Hazel held her tiny wand. Her voice was small. “What if I can’t?”

“You can,” said the Guardian Spirit. “We will do it together. Step by step.”

They walked on the mushroom path. Squish. Squish.

First they went to the Dandelion Corner. The dandelions looked sleepy.

Hazel bent down. “Wake up, little fluff.”

The Guardian Spirit hummed. “Hmmm.”

Hazel tapped a dandelion gently. “Ping!”

A tiny yellow dot popped out, like a bead of sunshine. Hazel gasped. “Yellow!”

She put the yellow dot in her pocket pouch.

Next they went to the Pebble Brook. The water ran, but it looked clear and quiet.

Hazel said, “Hello, water.”

The Guardian Spirit said, “Listen.”

They listened. Drip. Drip.

Hazel dipped one finger in. “Brr!”

A small blue sparkle climbed onto her fingertip. “Blue!” Hazel said.

Into the pouch it went.

Then they went under the Tall Leaf Tree. A ladybug sat there. It looked gray and sad.

Hazel knelt. “Hi, little bug.”

The ladybug wiggled.

Hazel felt shy again. Her wings hummed. “What if I scare it?”

The Guardian Spirit floated closer. “Slow hands. Soft voice.”

Hazel tried. “You are safe,” she told the ladybug.

The ladybug’s dots blinked on—bright red dots! One red dot popped off like a tiny candy.

“Red!” Hazel laughed.

Now her pouch had yellow, blue, and red.

They returned to the middle of the Enchanted Commons, to the big stone that looked like a seat.

The Guardian Spirit said, “Mix them with care.”

Hazel poured the sparkles into her palms. They tickled.

“Ready?” asked the Spirit.

Hazel took a deep breath. “Ready.”

She waved her wand in a slow circle. “Swirl, swirl, colors twirl!”

The sparkles flew up like tiny fireflies. They spread over the grass. They kissed the flowers. They booped the butterflies.

Color rushed back!

Red roses blushed. Blue wings fluttered. Yellow dandelions grinned.

Hazel clapped. “We did it!”

The Guardian Spirit’s eyes shone. “You did it. You were brave, even when shy.”

A new thing appeared on the big stone: a little treasure box made of acorn wood.

Click!

Inside were three shiny color gems: one red, one blue, one yellow. They were smooth and safe to hold.

“For you,” said the Guardian Spirit. “A color kit. If the Commons ever looks pale again, you can help.”

Hazel hugged the box. “Thank you!”

She tucked it close and fluttered in a happy loop. Her wings hummed loud now, like a cheerful song.

In the bright Enchanted Commons, Hazel the Fairy smiled and sparkled all the way home.
