In a bright castle on a soft green hill lived Izzahbella Fairyland. She was a little fairy with silver shoes, blue wings, and a very kind heart. She was small, but she tried brave things.
Every morning, Izzahbella flew around the castle. She said, “Good morning, tall tower. Good morning, round moon window. Good morning, little door!”
Her best friend was Flower. Flower was not a flower in a pot. Flower was a talking yellow flower with two leafy arms and a red bow. Flower loved jokes.
“Why did the bee sit down?” Flower asked.
“I do not know,” said Izzahbella.
“Because it was bee-tired!” said Flower.
Izzahbella giggled. “That is a silly joke.”
One day, the castle became dark. The gold lamps went plink. Then they went out. The pink flags stopped dancing. Even the little fountain said only, “Drip. Drip.”
“Oh dear,” said Izzahbella.
Flower looked up at the cloudy sky. “Dragon did this.”
Behind the castle was a round, gray mountain. A Dragon lived in a cave there. He was big. He had green scales, orange horns, and a long tail. When he sneezed, tiny sparks jumped from his nose.
Dragon had taken the Sunbell from the top of the castle tower. The Sunbell made the castle warm and bright each day. Without it, the castle felt sleepy.
“We must bring it back,” said Izzahbella.
Flower shook his petals. “I am a little scared.”
“I am scared too,” said Izzahbella. “We can go together.”
So Izzahbella put a tiny lantern in her pocket. Flower climbed into a small blue wagon. Izzahbella pulled the wagon over the hill.
Bump. Bump. Bump.
At the mountain, they saw Dragon’s cave. It was dark inside.
“Hello?” called Izzahbella in a small voice.
“Go away!” boomed Dragon.
Flower hid behind Izzahbella’s wing. “Maybe he is not in a talking mood,” whispered Flower.
Then they heard a sound.
Sniff. Sniff. Sniff.
Dragon was crying.
Izzahbella flew a little closer. The Sunbell sat beside Dragon. It shone like a tiny sun. But Dragon’s tail was stuck under a big gray rock.
“Ouch,” Dragon said. “I only wanted the Sunbell because my cave is cold. Then this rock rolled onto my tail. Now I cannot move it.”
Izzahbella looked at the rock. It was very big. She could not lift it alone.
“I will help,” she said.
Flower opened his leafy arms. “Me too! I am small, but I can push.”
Izzahbella waved her wand. “Sparkle, shine, help us try!”
A little blue light came from her wand. It was not a big spell. Izzahbella was still learning magic. But the light showed a long, strong stick near the cave wall.
“A push-stick!” cried Flower.
Together they put the stick under the rock. Izzahbella pushed. Flower pushed. Dragon pushed with his two front paws.
Push, push, push!
The rock rolled away.
Dragon’s tail was free.
“Hooray!” Dragon roared. His roar shook three sleepy bats awake. “Thank you, little fairy. Thank you, funny flower.”
Flower bowed. “I am funny. It is true.”
Dragon looked at the Sunbell. “I am sorry I took this. I should have asked for help. I did not need to take it.”
“That is okay,” said Izzahbella. “Let us make your cave warm another way.”
She waved her wand again. “Glow, glow, little light!”
The wand made three small glowing balls. They floated up to the cave roof like gentle stars.
Dragon smiled. “My cave has stars now!”
He carefully picked up the Sunbell and carried it back to the castle. Izzahbella flew beside his ear. Flower rode on Dragon’s head like a very small captain.
At the castle tower, Dragon hung the Sunbell in its place.
Ding! Dong! Ding!
Warm gold light poured over the castle. The lamps went plink, then glowed. The pink flags danced. The fountain sang, “Splash, splash, splash!”
The castle people cheered for Izzahbella, Flower, and Dragon.
From a little treasure chest, the castle keeper gave Izzahbella a new wand. It had a star on top and made kind blue sparkles.
“You are a brave helper,” said the keeper.
Flower received a shiny gold watering can. “For me?” he gasped.
“Yes,” said Izzahbella. “Now you can drink whenever you want.”
Dragon received a huge soft blanket for his cave. It had tiny stars all over it.
That evening, Izzahbella, Flower, and Dragon ate honey cakes in the castle garden. Flower told his bee joke again. Dragon laughed so hard that one harmless sparkle popped from his nose.
Izzahbella held her new star wand. She felt small. She felt happy. She felt brave.
And high above the bright castle, the Sunbell rang one more time.
Ding, dong. Good night.
