Miss Lady Hazel and the Lost Red Shoe

Miss Lady Hazel is a little ballerina who lives in the snowy Arctic. She wears a pink tutu and soft slippers. She is shy but she is brave. Each morning she wakes to bright white snow and the cold blue sky. She dances on ice with a twirl and a spin. She dreams of making a big ballet show. She hopes to dance for her friends.

One cold day she meets Mammoth. Mammoth is big and kind. He has warm fur and gentle eyes. He loves to stomp softly in the snow. He sees Hazel and lifts his trunk in a wave. Hazel smiles and waves back. "Hello, Mammoth," she says. "Will you watch my dance?" Mammoth nods and stomps a happy beat. Hazel steps and jumps on the ice. She twists and she glides. It looks like magic.

At the end of her dance, Hazel claps and laughs. Her cheeks are red. Mammoth trumpets a cheer. He is so proud. Hazel reaches for her red ballet shoe. But the shoe is gone! She looks down. Only one slipper is there. The other is lost in the snow.

Hazel feels sad and a little scared. She hugs her arms. She whispers, "Where did it go?" Mammoth kneels and sniffs the snow. He points with his trunk toward a snowy hill. Hazel follows. They climb a small slope of white ice. They look all around. They search by snow mounds and icy ridges. They call, "Red shoe! Red shoe!" But no shoe comes.

Then they hear a gentle rumble. A fluffy shape moves in the snow. It is Yeti. Yeti is tall and covered in white fur. He has big feet and soft hands. He looks at Hazel and Mammoth. He holds something red in his paw. It shines against the snow.

Hazel feels nervous. She steps back. Mammoth stands up tall to protect her. Yeti drops to his knees. He opens his paw. He offers the red shoe. Hazel sees the shoe is safe. She feels her heart glow. "Thank you, Yeti," Hazel says. "I am happy again." Yeti nods. He seems shy but kind.

Hazel puts on her red shoe. It fits just right. She stands and takes a deep breath. She spins and dances on the snow. Mammoth and Yeti watch her. The sun glints on the ice. It sparkles like stars.

Hazel bows low. She claps her hands. She is proud and brave. She gave thanks to Yeti and Mammoth. She learned that friends can help, even if they seem big or quiet.

That night, Hazel shines with joy in her cozy ice home. She places her red shoe on a small shelf. She closes her eyes and dreams of her next dance. Tomorrow she will dance for Mammoth and Yeti under the bright blue sky. She feels safe and loved in the Arctic world.

Miss Lady Hazel has her red ballet shoe again. She learned that kindness and friendship bring magic to every dance.
