Navie the Brave and the Blue Seashell

Kids stories

Navie the brave loses her blue seashell underwater. With Mouse and Flower, she meets a Pirate and makes a kind trade to get it back—plus a tiny star-gem treasure.
Navie the Brave and the Blue Seashell

Navie the brave was a little mermaid. She lived underwater, where bubbles went pop-pop and fish went swish-swish.

Navie liked to help. She was brave, even when her tummy felt a tiny wobble.

One morning, Navie looked at her shiny shell necklace. “Oh!” she said. “My favorite blue seashell is gone.”

She blinked. She searched. No shell.

“I will find it,” Navie said. “I am Navie the brave.”

A Mouse peeked from a crack in a rock. Yes, a Mouse underwater, in a round glass bubble-helmet. The Mouse was small and quick, and a little bossy.

“Did you lose something?” squeaked Mouse.

“My blue seashell,” said Navie.

Mouse tapped the helmet. “We can look. I am good at looking!”

A Flower waved nearby. It was a sea-flower, soft and bright, like a tiny garden star. Flower was gentle and calm.

Flower hummed, “I can smell the ocean paths. Let’s go slow.”

So the three friends swam.

They swam past sleepy coral. They swam through tall seaweed that tickled—tickle, tickle.

Mouse giggled. “Seaweed is funny hair!”

Navie laughed. “Ha-ha!”

Then they heard a sound.

“Yo-ho-ho,” came a rough voice.

Behind a big rock was a Pirate. A sea pirate, with a dark hat and a long coat that floated like a flag. He had a little bag that clinked.

Clink. Clink.

Navie held her hands close. “Hello,” she said, brave and polite.

Pirate squinted. “I found a pretty blue shell,” he grumbled. “I like pretty things.”

Mouse whispered, “That sounds like your shell.”

Flower whispered, “Be kind. Be steady.”

Navie swam closer, but not too close. “Pirate,” she said, “that shell is mine. It helps me feel safe. Can I have it back, please?”

Pirate hugged his clinking bag. “No,” he said. “Mine now.”

Navie felt her wobble tummy again. But she took a slow breath. “We can trade,” she said.

Mouse’s eyes sparkled. “A trade! I love trades!”

Navie looked around. She saw a bright pearl stuck in mud. She saw a lost shiny spoon. She saw a ribbon of sea-silk.

Navie pointed. “We will find you a treasure that is yours,” she told Pirate. “A better treasure.”

Pirate blinked. “Better?”

Flower swayed. “Better can be soft,” Flower sang. “Better can be bright.”

Mouse darted off. “I will find the brightest thing!”

Navie searched with her careful eyes. She found a small chest wedged between stones. It was not big. But it was real. She pulled, and pull, and PULL.

“Push with your tail,” said Mouse.

“Help with your leaves,” said Navie.

Flower pressed gently, strong in a quiet way.

Pop! The chest came free.

Inside were tiny sea-gems that glowed like stars. Blue, green, and pink.

“Oooo,” said Mouse.

“Ahhh,” said Flower.

Navie carried the chest to the Pirate. “Here,” she said. “This treasure was stuck. Now it is free. You can have it.”

Pirate opened it. His rough face softened.

“So shiny,” he whispered.

Navie held out her hand. “And my blue shell?”

Pirate looked at the shell in his bag. He sighed. “I did not know it was special,” he said.

He gave it back.

Navie smiled big. “Thank you.” She put it on. It felt just right.

Pirate nodded. “You are brave,” he said. “Not loud-brave. Kind-brave.”

Mouse puffed up. “And we are clever!”

Flower hummed, “And we are together.”

The Pirate swam away with the little chest, counting softly, “One gem, two gem…”

Navie and her friends swam home.

At home, Navie found one more surprise in her hair: a tiny star-gem must have fallen into her curls.

“A bonus treasure!” Mouse cheered.

Navie giggled. “We will keep it safe,” she said.

Flower glowed warmly.

Underwater, bubbles went pop-pop, and Navie the brave felt happy, safe, and shiny.
