In the bright Kingdom, Daddy was a superhero. He wore a soft blue cape. It went flap, flap, flap in the wind. Daddy was strong, but he was gentle too. He helped little bugs cross the path. He helped babies find their shoes.
One sunny morning, Daddy heard a tiny cry.
“Peep! Peep!”
It was Phoenix, the small red bird. Phoenix had gold feathers and a very big voice.
“My shiny treasure is gone!” Phoenix said. “It was a star-shaped box. Inside are my warm, yummy sparkle berries!”
Daddy knelt down. “Do not worry, Phoenix. Superhero Daddy will help.”
Moon Child came from the silver tower. Moon Child wore round moon boots. Boing! Boing! Moon Child was quiet and kind. Moon Child could see little things in the dark.
“I see a clue,” said Moon Child.
On the grass was a golden feather. Then there was a wet boot print. Then there was a funny round crumb.
Alchemist came from the Kingdom kitchen. Alchemist wore a green hat and carried tiny bottles. Alchemist loved making helpful mixes.
“This crumb smells like banana bread,” said Alchemist. “And salt. And sea wind.”
Daddy nodded. “Let’s follow it.”
They walked past the red castle. They crossed the bouncy bridge. Boing, boing, boing! Phoenix flew high. Moon Child looked low. Alchemist sniffed every crumb.
At the blue river, they saw a little boat. On the boat sat Pirate.
Pirate had a striped shirt, a floppy hat, and a very silly sneezing parrot.
“Achoo!” sneezed the parrot.
“Bless you,” said Daddy.
Pirate hugged the star-shaped box close. “This is my treasure now!” Pirate said. But Pirate did not look mean. Pirate looked worried.
Daddy used his calm superhero voice. “Phoenix is sad. That box belongs to Phoenix.”
Pirate looked at the water. “I know,” Pirate whispered. “But my boat has a hole. I wanted treasure to buy wood. I do not want my boat to sink. I am scared.”
Phoenix puffed up. “You should ask!”
Pirate’s cheeks went pink. “I should ask,” Pirate said.
Daddy smiled. “We can fix a boat together.”
Alchemist opened a yellow bottle. “Sticky, sturdy tree sap!”
Moon Child found three smooth boards under a willow tree. Phoenix brought soft golden feathers to dry the wet spots. Daddy held the boat still with his superhero hands.
Patch. Press. Tap, tap, tap.
The hole was gone.
Pirate put one toe inside the boat. Then two toes. The boat did not sink.
“Hooray!” shouted Pirate. “My boat can float!”
Pirate gave Phoenix the star-shaped box. Phoenix opened it. Inside were sparkle berries: red, blue, purple, and gold. They twinkled like tiny stars.
Phoenix shared one berry with Daddy. One with Moon Child. One with Alchemist. And one with Pirate.
Pirate took a bite. “Mmm! It tastes like brave helping!”
Then Pirate reached into a secret pocket. “I have a real treasure too,” Pirate said.
Out came four small medals. They were bright and round. Each medal had a picture of a smiling boat.
“For the best helpers in the Kingdom,” said Pirate.
Daddy wore his medal on his blue cape. Moon Child bounced with joy. Alchemist made the medals shine with one safe little fizz. Phoenix flew in circles, singing, “Peep, peep, hooray!”
From that day, Daddy was called Superhero Daddy, Friend of the Kingdom. And whenever someone felt scared or sad, Daddy said, “We can ask. We can help. We can do it together.”
Flap, flap, flap went Daddy’s cape as the friends shared sparkle berries under the warm, golden sun.
