Amethyst and the Jars of Color

Kids stories

Amethyst the shy Fairy finds the Enchanted Forest pale and quiet. With Ripple the Water Nymph, Brin the Elf, and Saff the Fox, she meets the Crystal Guardian and brings the colors back—earning a pouch of sparkling color-dust.
Amethyst and the Jars of Color

Amethyst is a little Fairy in the Enchanted Forest. She is gentle and brave, but a bit shy. Her wings are purple, like a soft flower.

Today, the forest looks quiet. Too quiet.

“Where did the colors go?” Amethyst whispers.
The leaves look pale. The berries look gray.

A Water Nymph pops up from a stream. Splash! She is bright and giggly.
“I am Ripple,” she says. “My water is dull. No sparkle. Uh-oh.”

An Elf steps out from behind a tree. He is tidy and careful.
“I am Brin,” he says. “I saw the colors slide away, like paint running.”

A Fox trots in. He is quick and curious.
“I’m Saff,” says the Fox. “I sniffed a cold, shiny smell. Crystals.”

They walk together. Step-step. Crunch-crunch.
They reach a big crystal gate. It shines, but it feels stern.
In front stands the Crystal Guardian. Tall. Still. Like a statue.

“Stop,” says the Crystal Guardian. “Colors are not for playing. Colors must be kept safe.”

Amethyst hides behind her wings.
Ripple whispers, “Let’s ask nicely.”
Brin nods. “Words first.”
Saff flicks his tail. “And if words fail, we run!”

Amethyst takes a tiny breath.
“Hello, Guardian,” she says softly. “The forest needs its colors. Little flowers are sad. Baby birds can’t find red berries.”

The Crystal Guardian looks down.
“Colors can be lost,” he says. “Wind can steal them. Rain can wash them. I locked them away.”

Ripple splashes her hands. “But you locked the joy too!”

The Guardian’s crystal chest glows, thump-thump, like a slow drum.
“I did not want harm,” he says.

Amethyst thinks. She is small, but her heart is bright.
“Can we share?” she asks. “You can guard them, and we can carry them back. We will be careful.”

Brin adds, “We can make rules. One: no spilling paint on mushrooms.”
Saff snorts. “Two: no licking blue. It might taste like socks.”
Ripple laughs, “Three: we bring you a sparkle-song!”

The Crystal Guardian pauses.
Then he opens the gate. Click.
Inside is a crystal room with jars: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue.
So pretty. So bright.

“Take them,” says the Guardian. “But promise.”

“I promise,” says Amethyst.

They each carry a jar. Carefully. Carefully.
Ripple uses stream water to pour tiny drops on stones.
Brin sprinkles yellow on sunflowers.
Saff dabs red on berries with his tail tip.
Amethyst waves her wand—just a little.
“Glow, glow, go!” she says.

Colors bloom back into the Enchanted Forest. Leaves shine. Flowers smile.
Even the air looks happy.

The Crystal Guardian comes to see. His stern face softens.
“I see,” he says. “Colors are safer when friends share the job.”

He offers Amethyst a gift: a small crystal pouch.
Inside is glittering color-dust, safe to use.
“For brave hands,” he says.

Amethyst beams. “Thank you!”
She shakes the pouch once. Twinkle!
A rainbow pops up over the stream.
Ripple claps. Brin cheers. Saff does a silly hop.

And in the bright forest, Amethyst the shy Fairy feels brave again.
