Sir Nugget was a small Cowboy with a big hat. He lived by a warm, green Swamp. He was brave, but also gentle. He liked to help.
One morning he patted his pockets. “My shiny sheriff star is gone.”
Seer the Seer blinked slow. Seer could see little hints. Seer said, “I see mud. I see a splash. I see… a giggle.”
Pig the Pig snorted. Pig was funny and bold. “Giggle? I can giggle too! Hee-hee!”
Horse the Horse stomped. Horse was loyal and calm. “We will find it, Sir Nugget.”
They walked into the Swamp. Squish. Squish. Frogs went plop!
Sir Nugget whispered, “Hello, Swamp. We are looking.”
A shadow moved. Bandit the Bandit popped out from tall reeds. Bandit wore a mask and a mean grin.
Bandit said, “I took your star! Mine now!”
Pig said, “Nope!” Pig tried to run, but—sploosh—Pig slid in mud.
Horse pulled Pig out. “Easy,” Horse said.
Sir Nugget did not shout. He took a slow breath. “Bandit,” he said, “that star helps me do good. Please give it back.”
Bandit wiggled the star and laughed. “Catch me!”
Bandit ran on a log. The log was wobbly. The star flashed. Sunlight danced on the water.
Seer pointed. “The light makes a path.”
Sir Nugget looked. The flashing light made bright dots, like stepping stones.
“Follow the dots,” Sir Nugget said.
Horse walked first, careful. Clip-clop. Pig followed, tip-toe. Sir Nugget went last.
Bandit hopped fast. But the log rolled. “Uh-oh!” Bandit slipped—plop!—into a lily pad patch.
Bandit splashed and spluttered. The star flew up, twinkled, then landed on a soft mossy lump.
Sir Nugget hurried over. “My star!” He picked it up and wiped it clean.
Bandit tried to climb out. The mud held him like sticky pudding.
Pig giggled. “Pudding Bandit!”
Bandit frowned. He looked scared now.
Sir Nugget knelt. “I will help you. Hold my hand.”
Bandit blinked. “You… you help me?”
“Yes,” said Sir Nugget. “Cowboys help.”
Horse braced strong. Seer guided. Pig pushed with a happy grunt. Pull… pull… pop!
Bandit tumbled onto dry grass.
Bandit stared at the clean star. “I wanted something shiny,” Bandit muttered.
Sir Nugget nodded. “Shiny is nice. But taking hurts.”
Seer said, “I see a better shiny.”
Seer led them to an old turtle shell half buried in the Swamp bank. Inside were smooth stones, bright as candy. Red, blue, green, gold.
Pig gasped. “Treasure rocks!”
Sir Nugget smiled. “You may have one, Bandit, if you ask.”
Bandit swallowed. “May I… please… have a shiny rock?”
“Thank you for asking,” Sir Nugget said. He gave Bandit a gold stone.
Bandit held it close. “It is warm,” he said, softer.
They all walked home. The Swamp hummed. Fireflies blinked.
Sir Nugget pinned his sheriff star back on his vest. It clicked in place.
Horse said, “We did it together.”
Pig said, “And nobody stayed stuck!”
Seer smiled. “I see friends.”
Bandit nodded and waved. “Bye,” he said. “No more taking.”
Sir Nugget tipped his hat. “Good job, team.”
And the little Cowboy went to bed with his star shining, and a pocket stone too, smooth and bright.
